PEOPLE WHO CANNOT POSSESS FIREARMS UNDER FEDERAL LAW

 

Pursuant to 18 United States Code, section 922(g), the following people cannot possess firearms:

  • Felon (any prior felony—not limited to convictions for offenses against persons or property; also includes any state misdemeanor punishable by more than 2 years)
  • Fugitive from Justice
  • Current Drug User or Addict
  • Adjudicated Mentally Defective or Previously Committed to a Mental Hospital
  • Illegal Alien
  • Dishonorably Discharged from the Military
  • Renounced U.S. Citizenship
  • Subject to Current Protective Order
  • Previously Convicted of Misdemeanor Crime of Violence against a victim who is the perpetrator’s spouse, equivalent of a spouse, child, or under his/her guardianship
  • Under Felony Indictment
