PEOPLE WHO CANNOT POSSESS FIREARMS UNDER FEDERAL LAW
Pursuant to 18 United States Code, section 922(g), the following people cannot possess firearms:
- Felon (any prior felony—not limited to convictions for offenses against persons or property; also includes any state misdemeanor punishable by more than 2 years)
- Fugitive from Justice
- Current Drug User or Addict
- Adjudicated Mentally Defective or Previously Committed to a Mental Hospital
- Illegal Alien
- Dishonorably Discharged from the Military
- Renounced U.S. Citizenship
- Subject to Current Protective Order
- Previously Convicted of Misdemeanor Crime of Violence against a victim who is the perpetrator’s spouse, equivalent of a spouse, child, or under his/her guardianship
- Under Felony Indictment
