Criminal Division

 

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of New York prosecutes all violations of federal criminal law occurring within the 32 counties comprising the Northern District of New York.  Among many other violations of federal criminal law, the United States Attorney’s Office prosecutes offenses related terrorism, serious narcotics trafficking, complex fraud schemes, child exploitation, public corruption, immigration, and more. The Criminal Division is the largest of the Office’s divisions.

The Criminal Division is supervised by the Chief of the Criminal Division, Cyrus P.W. Rieck, who reports to the Deputy United States Attorney, Daniel Hanlon, and the First Assistant United States Attorney, John A. Sarcone III.  The Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division is Nico Commandeur.  There are five subject matter chiefs, including the Project Safe Childhood and Human Trafficking Chief, Katherine Kopita; National Security and Cybercrime Chief, Joshua Rosenthal; Financial Crimes Chief, Michael Perry; and General Crimes Chief, Tamara Thompson.  Deputy Chief Commandeur is also the Narcotics and Firearms Chief.  Supervisory Assistant U.S. Attorney Dustin Segovia is the eLitigation Coordinator for the Criminal Division.
