Joint Terrorism Task Force
The September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks prompted the Department of Justice to redefine its mission, objectives, and priorities to focus its top priority on counterterrorism. The Department of Justice directed the formation or expansion of terrorism task forces and councils that coordinate and integrate intelligence and law enforcement functions to achieve the Department’s counterterrorism goal. Preventing future acts of terrorism is the top strategic goal of the Department of Justice.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office works closely with the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) in Kansas to investigate, and when appropriate, prosecute terrorism-related matters. The JTTF brings together FBI agents, federal partners, and state and local law enforcement officers. Community members also support this effort by serving as additional “eyes and ears” for law enforcement.
The JTTF includes highly trained investigators, analysts, linguists, hostage‑rescue specialists, and other experts from more than 30 participating agencies. Led by the FBI, this multi‑agency initiative strengthens collaboration and enhances counterterrorism capabilities across federal, state, and local jurisdictions.
Citizens who wish to report suspicious activity which may be related to terrorism by calling the FBI at 816-512-8200 or reporting it online at https://www.fbi.gov/tips.
