Stacy Ludwig

Stacy Ludwig has served as the Director of the Professional Responsibility Advisory Office (“PRAO”) since February 2016.  In this capacity, she directs and oversees PRAO’s mission to provide professional responsibility advice and training to Department attorneys and Assistant United States Attorneys worldwide, on how to carry out their duties, in compliance with the applicable rules of professional conduct.  Prior to her appointment, Ms. Ludwig served as PRAO’s Acting Director, Deputy Director and an Attorney Advisor.  Ms. Ludwig began her career with the Department as an Assistant United States Attorney in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, where she represented the United States in many complex civil affirmative and defensive cases.  In recognition of her service in that Office, she was appointed Senior Litigation Counsel in 1999.

Ms. Ludwig has been a member of the adjunct faculty at Georgetown University Law School, George Washington University Law School and American University’s Washington College of Law, where she taught professional responsibility courses.  Ms. Ludwig was appointed to and served on the District of Columbia Bar's Legal Ethics Committee, which is responsible for writing opinions interpreting the District of Columbia Rules of Professional Conduct.  She also was appointed to and currently serves on the District of Columbia Bar’s Rules Review Committee, which evaluates and proposes changes to the District of Columbia Rules of Professional Conduct.

Ms. Ludwig earned her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and English and Juris Doctor degrees from the University of Wisconsin.
