A Message from EOIR Leadership

Colleagues, 

As we know, individuals with limited English proficiency routinely appear before the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR). In fact, 93 percent of the cases our courts completed this past fiscal year involved a party whose primary language was not English. We at EOIR have an obligation to ensure that all individuals have the opportunity to present their case, regardless of their English proficiency. 

To that end, I am pleased to announce EOIR’s newly updated Language Access Plan. With the publication of this Plan, we join our colleagues throughout the Department of Justice in demonstrating our commitment to ensure meaningful language access to the individuals who come before us. This Plan provides valuable guidance to judges and staff as we enhance access to agency programs and activities and further the Department’s mission. I urge you to familiarize yourself with the Plan and to take advantage of this new resource, which will be an asset to our agency.

The provisions of this Language Access Plan are subject to modifications by changes in applicable statutes and regulations. Impacted provisions will be amended or superseded effective on the dates specified in any statutory or regulatory change or through the Executive Office for Immigration Review’s announcement of such changes, and EOIR will issue interim guidance addressing any such change as soon as practicable.
