National Drug Intelligence Center Connecticut Drug Threat Assessment July 2002 MethamphetamineMethamphetamine is rarely distributed or abused in Connecticut. The number of methamphetamine-related treatment admissions, seizures, OCDETF investigations, and federal sentences in the state is insignificant. Only one methamphetamine production laboratory has been seized since 1993, and there have been no reports of methamphetamine-related violence. Caucasian independent dealers distribute the limited quantity of methamphetamine available in the state. AbuseMethamphetamine is rarely abused in Connecticut. The number of methamphetamine-related treatment admissions to publicly funded facilities has been stable at low levels since 1994, according to TEDS data. (See Table 1 in Overview section.) Most methamphetamine abusers are teenagers and young adults who frequent rave parties.
AvailabilityMethamphetamine is available in limited quantities in the state. According to FDSS data, federal law enforcement officials rarely seized methamphetamine in Connecticut from FY1997 through FY1999. In FY2000 DEA seized 1 gram of methamphetamine in Bridgeport. Price and purity data for methamphetamine currently are not available in Connecticut. There have been no methamphetamine-related OCDETF cases or federal sentences in Connecticut since 1999.
ViolenceThere are no reports of violent crimes associated with the distribution or abuse of methamphetamine in Connecticut.
ProductionOnly one methamphetamine production laboratory has been seized in Connecticut since 1993. In February 2002 Enfield police were alerted to a mobile, nonoperational methamphetamine laboratory. The laboratory had been used to produce an unknown amount of methamphetamine in the East Hartford area before production stopped and the laboratory was stored in Enfield.
TransportationThe limited quantity of methamphetamine that is available in Connecticut is transported from western and southwestern states, usually California, via package delivery services.
DistributionMethamphetamine rarely is distributed in Connecticut. Caucasian independent dealers distribute limited quantities of methamphetamine in the state.
