U.S. v. Lindsay Groves and U.S. v. Stacie Marie Laughton

Case Status

November 6, 2023: Both of the defendants remain detained at this time. There will be many status dates, which are dates for the attorneys to ensure the case is moving along. Once there is a substantive update for either defendant, we will post the date and time. 

September 20, 2023: The Court granted the government's motion for revocation of pretrial release order as to defendant Lindsay Groves. Groves remains detained.

August 18, 2023: Groves appeared in federal court in Boston for arraignment hearing as well as a motion hearing regarding the matter of detention. The Court took the government's motion for detention under advisement. Groves remains held pending the decision of the District Court Judge.

August 11, 2023: The magistrate judge has issued his decision regarding the detention status of Groves. The judge made the determination judge to release the defendant with conditions of her release. Our office is appealing this decision to the District Court Judge. A hearing will be held regarding this appeal on August 18 at 2pm in courtroom 10. Groves will be held pending the decision of the District Court Judge.

July 28, 2023: Defendant Stacie Marie Laughton appeared in court for her arraignment and initial appearance. Defendant entered a plea of not guilty to Counts 1-3 charged in the indictment. Government moved for detention. Defendant remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals. Initial status conference set for September 14, 2023 at 10:30 a.m.

July 27, 2023: Defendants Lindsay Groves and Stacie Marie Laughton were indicted by a federal grand jury with Sexual Exploitation of Children; Aiding and Abetting and Distribution of Child pornography.

July 18, 2023: Defendant Stacie Marie Laughton was charged by criminal complaint with Sexual Exploitation of Children (and Aiding and Abetting). 

July 13, 2023: A detention and probable cause hearing for Lindsay Groves was held. The judge found that there was probable cause for the defendant to be charged. The judge took the matter of detention under advisement. As of now, the defendant will continue to be held in custody while this decision is being made. There is no next court date at this time. June 28, 2023: Defendant Lindsay Groves appeared for her initial appearance. The defendant has a probable cause/detention hearing scheduled for 7/13/2023 at 11:00 AM. June 22, 2023: Defendant Lindsay Groves was charged by complaint with Sexual Exploitation of Children and Distribution of Child Pornography.
