Sex Offender Sentenced For Failure To Register

BOSTON – A former Jamaica Plain man was sentenced yesterday for failing to register as a sex offender.

Gary Dixon, 49, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton to 33 months in prison, and five years of supervised release. In February 2014, Dixon pleaded guilty to failing to register as a sex offender.

In 1998 and 2003, Dixon was convicted in Massachusetts state courts for indecent assault and battery on a child, and in 2003 for open and gross lewd and lascivious behavior. He was required to register as a sex offender in Massachusetts and was designated a level three offender, the highest level. As such, Dixon was required to promptly inform law enforcement authorities of any change in his residence or employment. If he moved to another state, he was also required to appear in person within three days to inform local law enforcement authorities of his residency. During the summer of 2012, Dixon moved from his registered address in Jamaica Plain without informing Massachusetts authorities. Beginning as early as January 2013, Dixon resided in Maine where he was attempting to start a landscaping business without informing either Massachusetts or Maine law enforcement authorities of his move. In July 2013, he was located in Brunswick, Maine.

United States Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz and John Gibbons, U.S. Marshal of the U.S. Marshals Service, District of Massachusetts, made the announcement today. The case was prosecuted by Victor A. Wild of Ortiz’s Economic Crimes Unit.
