RALEIGH, N.C. – A federal judge sentenced Roberto Almeida-Santos, 57, an illegal alien born in Mexico, to 7 months in federal prison. On June 22, 2026, Almeida pleaded guilty to immigration fraud. Almeida was previously convicted of multiple sex crimes against children.

“Our innocent children are our most precious treasures. We will ruthlessly and relentlessly hunt down anyone who chooses to sadistically harm them to satisfy disgusting urges, prosecute them, and lock them in federal prison. This shows why we need to expel illegal aliens from North Carolina,” said U.S. Attorney Ellis Boyle. “We stomped out this child molester spider. He will no longer destroy children’s lives, sowing fear on U.S. soil.”

On August 7, 2023, a Randolph County North Carolina Superior Court grand jury returned two indictments against Almeida, charging him with a statutory sex offense with child 15 years of age or younger, and two counts of indecent liberties with a child, from January 1, 2018, through January 1, 2020.

On August 7, 2023, a separate Guilford County North Carolina Superior Court grand jury returned two additional indictments against Almeida. The first indictment charged him with having committed statutory sex offense with a child by an adult from January 24, 2016, through January 23, 2017.  The second indictment charged him with having committed the same offense from January 24, 2018, through January 23, 2019.

On August 14, 2024, in Guilford County, North Carolina Superior Court jury convicted Almeida of two counts of sex offense with a child by an adult. The state court sentenced him to a term of imprisonment of between 18 and 26 years and ordered to register as a sex offender.  Almeida confessed to having committed the offenses from January 24, 2016, through January 23, 2017, and January 24, 2018, through January 23, 2019. The child victim he viciously sexually abused and raped was only 8 years old.

On December 17, 2024, in Randolph County, North Carolina Superior Court, Almeida was convicted of two counts of statutory sex offense with child 15 years of age or younger. He was sentenced to a term of imprisonment of between 16 and 25 years and ordered to register as a sex offender. He confessed to having committed the offenses from January 1, 2018, through January 1, 2020. The child victim he viciously sexually abused and raped was only 14 years old.

Almeida confessed to knowingly making materially false statements under penalty of perjury on his application to obtain a U-Visa when he submitted it to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (CIS) in November of 2021. In response to the questions “Have you EVER committed a crime or offense for which you have not been arrested?” and “Have you EVER ordered, incited, called for, committed, assisted, helped with, or otherwise participated in any of the following:…[e]ngaging in any kind of sexual conduct or relations with any person who was being forced or threatened?” he answered “No.” This highlights the perverse nature of the immigration system. This evil spider lied to get a U-visa which is supposed to be given to victims of crime. This is yet another example of how the entire visa and illegal immigration scheme is flipped inside out, and the bad guys are looting it blind.

Ellis Boyle, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina, made the announcement after U.S. District Judge James C. Dever III sentenced the defendant. ICE ERO officers investigated the case as part of Operation False Haven - an ongoing initiative designed to aggressively target child molesters and other egregious felons who fraudulently obtain immigration benefits.  Upon completion of his prison sentence, Almeida will be transferred to ICE custody for removal from the U.S.
