Indictment Charges Bridgeport Man with Offense Stemming from New Year’s Shooting

For Immediate Release
U.S. Attorney's Office, District of Connecticut

David X. Sullivan, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, P.J. O’Brien, Special Agent in Charge of the New Haven Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Bridgeport Police Chief Roderick Porter today announced that a federal grand jury in Bridgeport has returned an indictment charging JONATHAN BOHANNON, 38, of Bridgeport, with an offense stemming from a shooting incident earlier this year.

As alleged in court documents and statements made in court, in the early morning hours of January 1, 2026, Bohannon shot an employee of the Mystique Gentleman’s Club, located on Main Street in Bridgeport.  Bohannon and the shooting victim had been involved in an altercation of the club earlier that night.  Investigators recovered a single shell casing at the spot of shooting.  The bullet remains inside the shooting victim.

The indictment alleges that Bohannon’s criminal history includes a felony drug conviction in state court, and federal convictions for narcotics trafficking and firearm possession offenses for which Bohannon was sentenced to 160 months of imprisonment.  He was released from federal prison in September 2025.

The indictment charges Bohannon with unlawful possession of ammunition by a felon, an offense that carries a maximum term of imprisonment of 15 years.  Bohannon, who is on federal supervised release, faces additional penalties if he is found to have violated the conditions of his supervised release.

The indictment was returned on October 8, 2026.  On October 21, 2026, Bohannon, who had been detained in state custody since May 2026, appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Thomas O. Farrish in Hartford and pleaded not guilty to the charge.

U.S. Attorney Sullivan stressed that an indictment is not evidence of guilt.  Charges are only allegations, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

This investigation is being conducted by the FBI Bridgeport Safe Streets Task Force and the Bridgeport Police Department.  The Task Force is composed of personnel from the FBI, Connecticut State Police, and the Bridgeport, Fairfield, Norwalk, Trumbull, and Westport Police Departments.  The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Rahul Kale.
