4. Crimes Against Immediate Family of All Federal Officials (18 U.S.C. § 115)

Effective April 24, 1996, the United States now has jurisdiction to prosecute the murder, kidnapping or assault of a member of the immediate family of all Federal officials where such crimes are committed with the intent to interfere with those Federal officials in the performance of their duties or are committed to retaliate against those officials for the performance of their duties. Prior to April 24, 1996, § 115 primarily covered only the immediate family members of the President, Vice President, Members of Congress, all Federal judges, the heads of Executive agencies, the Director of the CIA and Federal law enforcement officials.
