The Antitrust Division's Assistant Attorney General's Honors Fellowship

Fellowship Details:

The Antitrust Division’s Assistant Attorney General’s (AAG’s) Honors Fellowship is designed to recruit, train, mentor, and engage talented entry-level attorneys in the field of antitrust enforcement. Fellows will develop a strong foundation on which to build a career in antitrust through rotational placements in the Office of the AAG (one year) and two additional six-month assignments in the Division’s enforcement, policy, or international sections, as listed below. The initial appointment may be extended up to an additional two years or be converted to a permanent position without further competition at the Division’s discretion.

Fellows will gain substantive antitrust experience by participating in the processes through which the Division makes enforcement and policy decisions, becoming fluent in the factors and considerations that inform the Division's decision-making and the relative weight that those factors carry. Through the program, Fellows will learn how mergers and/or criminal investigations progress, including how the Division gathers information and interacts with the public, and will develop substantive subject matter expertise.  Fellows will also learn how commodity portfolios are allocated among the Division's sections and develop a sense for the industries or subject matter areas in which they would like to gain more specialized knowledge. Fellows will receive regular mentorship and guidance from Division leadership.

At the conclusion of the initial appointment, Fellows will be able to:

  • Apply appropriate antitrust statutes, case law, rules and regulations, and policies to antitrust issues and trade policy;
  • Actively participate as a contributing team member in merger investigations and/or criminal investigations;
  • Forge positive working relationships with antitrust practitioners and other members of the antitrust enforcement community in the U.S. and of foreign governments and international organizations;
  • Offer recommendations as to the application of antitrust laws to foreign conduct and foreign entities;
  • Draw guidance from a network of mentors who are well-acquainted with the Fellow’s career aspirations; and
  • Participate in interagency groups.
