Vu T. Nguyen

Vu T. Nguyen has been in critical cybersecurity leadership roles within the federal government for over two decades.  Mr. Nguyen is skilled in security operations, vulnerability management, computer forensics, information assurance, and incident management.  Overall, Mr. Nguyen’s leadership, hard work, dedication, and efforts have been monumental in shaping the future of the federal government’s cybersecurity posture. 

Mr. Nguyen currently serves as the Chief Information Security Officer for the U.S. Department of Justice. Under Mr. Nguyen’s leadership, he ensured the team updated and disseminated the encryption training to the entire Department, published a supply chain risk management plan to secure DOJ’s information and communications technology, and created a cloud strategy with a focus on securing data and applications.  Additionally, Mr. Nguyen spearheaded the Department’s transition from a perimeter-based security to a zero trust architecture and developed the Department’s zero trust strategy implementation plan.   As part of the zero trust efforts, Mr. Nguyen oversaw the deployment of a centralized identity provider and developed an endpoint detection and response solution to support proactive detection of cybersecurity incidents.  

Prior to his current position, Mr. Nguyen served as acting Chief Information Security Officer at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service, where he managed the Component’s cybersecurity defense initiatives, enhanced, secured, and matured information technology defense systems.

Before joining the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service, Mr. Nguyen served as the Director of the Federal Information Security Modernization Act Compliance and Metrics Division at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.  Mr. Nguyen also served as the Director of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Operations Division. 

Mr. Nguyen holds a Master of Science in Telecommunications focused on cybersecurity and computer forensics from George Mason University.  Mr. Nguyen serves on the George Mason University College of Engineering and Computing Advisory Board.
