Joseph Krzystofik

Joseph M. Krzystofik is the Director of the Internal Review and Evaluation Office. In this role, he is responsible for providing senior management officials with guidance on the implementation of government-wide internal control standards and supporting Department leadership on matters related to the audit and program review activities of the Department’s Office of the Inspector General and the Government Accountability Office. Mr. Krzystofik previously served as the Deputy Director for Internal Review and Evaluation Office overseeing the Department’s Assessment of Information System Controls for OMB Circular A-123 compliance.

Prior to joining the Department in 2021, Mr. Krzystofik served at the U.S. Department of the Treasury and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Office of Inspector General where he oversaw financial statement audits, internal controls over financial reporting, and federal law and regulation compliance. He was the recipient of the Inspector General’s Office of Audit Employee of the Year Award in 2018 for spearheading the initial audit of HUD’s Compliance with the Digital Accountability and Transparency Act of 2014. Mr. Krzystofik began his career in the private sector with Deloitte & Touche LLP providing audit services for issuers in manufacturing and financial services sectors.

Mr. Krzystofik is a Certified Public Accountant in Virginia and Maryland. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Master of Science in Accounting from the University of Connecticut.
