Diversity
THE IMPORTANCE OF DIVERSITY IN OUR AUSA HIRING
This Office is best served when our Assistant U.S. Attorneys (“AUSAs”) bring a diverse set of backgrounds and life experiences to our mission on behalf of the United States to ensure the fair and impartial administration of justice and to protect the public safety. The more our AUSAs reflect the rich diversity of the New York City metropolitan area and the country we represent, the better we are at ensuring that our justice system is an equitable one that rightly earns the confidence of juries, judges, and members of our community.
In keeping with our Office’s longstanding traditions, we are constantly re-evaluating our hiring process to see how to improve. Among other things, we have engaged in a concerted effort to enhance the diversity of our AUSA applicant pool, with a special emphasis on recruiting lawyers who are women, people of color, and/or members of the LGBTQ community. Over the past several years, that effort has included reaching out to law schools, law firms, bar association groups, and Office alumni to encourage promising lawyers from diverse backgrounds to consider applying to our Office. We remain committed to these efforts, and we invite lawyers from a wide array of backgrounds and experiences to apply to join us, with the understanding that a diverse and inclusive Office better serves the public interest.
Like all U.S. Department of Justice components, we are an Equal Opportunity/Reasonable Accommodation Employer, and we do not discriminate based on race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, sexual orientation, disability, gender identity, protected genetic information, pregnancy, status as a parent, marital status, political affiliation, or any other nonmerit-based factor. We provide reasonable accommodation to applicants with disabilities where appropriate. If you need a reasonable accommodation for any part of the application and hiring process, please notify our Executive Assistant U.S. Attorney, Neil M. Corwin, who oversees our AUSA hiring and diversity recruitment efforts. We will make determinations on requests for reasonable accommodation on a case by case basis.
