S. Craig Alexander
Craig Alexander became Section Chief of the Indian Resources Section in November 2000. Prior to that, he was a trial attorney in the Section. In 1992, following a clerkship with then Chief Judge James Oakes, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, Craig joined the Law & Policy Section of the Division through the Honors Program.
In 1994-1997, while on detail from the Division, he helped to create the Department’s Office of Tribal Justice, serving as a Deputy Director and briefly as Acting Director. In 1997, Craig returned to the Division to become a trial attorney in the Indian Resources Section.
He received a J.D. from Duke University and a B.S. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Craig has taught Federal Indian Law at the George Washington University School of Law since 1995.
