The Land Acquisition Section acquired .32 acres in Oklahoma City on behalf of the General Services Administration for the construction of a federal campus to replace the bombed Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. The acquisition was critical for the implementation of new safety and security regulations adopted in the aftermath of the bombing to protect federal buildings. The property was acquired from the State of Oklahoma with its consent.

Did you know? An American Elm on the north side of the Memorial survived the blast of the bombings despite many of its branches being ripped off. While many people thought the tree would not survive, it began to bloom again a year after the bombing. Known today as the Survivor Tree, the tree has become an emblem of the National Memorial.
