Marine Corps Base Quantico

The Land Acquisition Section secured the site for Marine Corps Base Quantico. The United States initially leased approximately 5,300 acres along the Potomac River for the Base in 1917. In 1918, the leased land along with an additional 1,200 acres were purchased when the Base became a training center and embarkation point for Marines dispatching to Europe during World War I. Quantico was expanded significantly again in 1943 to make room for a major World War II training center.
