Channel Islands National Park

The Land Acquisition Section secured sites for the expansion of Channel Islands National Park. The Park is located on five of the eight islands off the coast of Southern California in the Pacific Ocean. Congress created the National Park in 1980 to protect the unique natural resources found on the islands and surrounding aquatic ecosystems. Sometimes referred to as America’s Galapagos, Channel Islands National Park is home to 145 species of animals and plants found nowhere else in the world.

Did you know? More than 10,000 years of continuous human occupation have been recorded on the Channel Islands, making the Islands’ archaeological sites the most well-preserved on the Pacific coast.
