Oneal Moore

Overview

Notice to Close File[1]

On June 2, 1965, at approximately 10:30 p.m., Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office Deputies Oneal Moore and David Creed Rogers were gunned down in Varnado, Louisiana, while they were on duty.[2]  They were investigating a brush fire when they noticed that they were being followed by a dark-colored 1954 or 1955 Chevrolet pickup truck with a confederate flag on the right side of the bumper and sideboards on the truck bed.  When the pick-up truck passed the police vehicle, occupant(s) from the truck fired shots into their car.  Moore, who was driving, lost control of the car and crashed into a tree.  Moore was killed instantly, the left side of his head blown out by a bullet from a high-powered hunting rifle.  Rogers was wounded in the shoulder by shotgun pellets and blinded in his right eye.
