Ukraine: ICITAP-Supported Patrol Police and Patrol Police Academies Delegation Completes U.S. Study Tour

On April 3, the ICITAP-Ukraine mission provided an update on its assistance to the National Police of Ukraine (NPU). During the last part of March 2023, ten (10) members of the NPU’s Police Department and Patrol Police Academies completed study tours at two (2) law enforcement training academies: St. Louis County, Missouri and Macon County, Illinois in conjunction with their attendance at the International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association (ILEETA) annual conference in St. Louis. As part of the study tours, the Patrol Police staff learned of instructional methodologies, use of scenario-based training, and infrastructure to support learning. While attending the St. Louis County Municipal Police Academy, Patrol Police staff discussed with academy leadership on general administration, recruit training, and continuing education training. At the request of the delegation, the academy shared several lesson plans in support of the PPA development. During their visit to the Macon County Law Enforcement Training Center, the delegation interacted with a number of staff and recruits currently in training, visited a modern police training facility including a street scene, tactical gyms, classrooms, and canine training facilities. In Ukraine, ICITAP works with the support of and in coordination the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs.
