Indonesia: ICITAP Collaborates with OPDAT to Deliver Trafficking in Persons Training to Indonesian Partners

On April 20, ICITAP’s Criminal Investigations team collaborated with the Department of Justice’s Office of Overseas Prosecutorial Development, Assistance and Training (OPDAT) to conduct a follow-up workshop on Trafficking in Persons (TIP) investigations, focusing on victim restitution.  The workshop was held in Bandung, which is the capital of West Java.  The workshop was attended by the same five police investigators and five prosecutors who participated at the first workshop on February 22, 2021.  The police and prosecutor participants are assigned to five district offices throughout the West Java region.  Presentations were given by representatives from Indonesia's Victim & Witness Protection Agency (LPSK), by a senior prosecutor from Indonesia's Attorney General Office in Jakarta, and by an AUSA (via video call) from the Western District of Washington.  The workshop also included a round-table discussion which resulted in a greater understanding by police and prosecutors of how they can better assist LPSK in calculating victim restitution. Opening remarks were given by representatives from the West Java Police District and the West Java High Prosecutor Office.
