Forensics: ICITAP Partners with AAFS to Deliver Webinar on Gender-Based Violence

On January 12, ICITAP partnered with the American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS) as part of the International Affairs Committee "Global Collaboration of Forensic Scientists" to present an installment of the Educational Webinar Series on Gender-Based Violence and Sexual Assaults. ICITAP delivered introductory remarks for the 90-minute event, which was moderated by the Laboratory Manager from the Oakland (California) Police Department Crime Laboratory, with remarks delivered by the Co-Chairs of the Global Collaboration of Forensic Scientists. A Senior Forensic Scientist from the FBI Laboratory (who serves as the President of The International Association of Forensic Toxicologists), delivered a presentation titled “Understanding the Challenges of Drug-Facilitated Sexual Assaults,” covering the range of drugs used, detection limits in testing, and timelines of reporting and evidence collection”; and two forensic nurses (who are past presidents of the International Association of Forensic Nurses) delivered a presentation titled “Forensic Nursing Impact on Gender-Based Sexual Violence,” speaking to the specialized services of Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) and the scope of acts of Gender-Based Violence to which they can be applied globally.
