Dominican Republic: ICITAP Promotes Greater Citizen Security

On April 20, as part of the expansion of the National Citizen Security Strategy (NCSS), at the request of the Ministry of Interior and Police, ICITAP assisted in a high-level meeting to coordinate strategic intervention initiatives implemented in the targeted hot spots within the municipality of Santo Domingo East. During the meeting, the Minister of Interior and Police (MIP), the Santo Domingo East Mayor, Boca Chica Deputy Mayor, and representatives from the National Drug Control Agency (DNCD) and the Dominican National Police (DNP) exchanged views and impressions regarding the main citizen security issues in the area. As a result, an inclusive implementation meeting will be scheduled in the coming days to outline a holistic approach to ensure intervention success. Requesting ICITAP assistance proves the program's impact and role in building capacity in the DNP to become a catalyst in citizen security initiatives. In the Dominican Republic, ICITAP works with the support of and in coordination with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
