Dominican Republic: ICITAP Assists in Designing Testing Standards for Establishing Forensic Certification

On February 17, the ICITAP mission in the Dominican Republic reported on its assistance in designing testing standards for establishing forensic certification. At the request of the Planning and Development Directorate, ICITAP provided technical assistance for implementing ISO 17025, a norm to establish international standards for laboratory testing, sampling, or calibration. As a result, on February 14, 2022, ICITAP presented an implementation matrix to effectively measure current capacity and desired goals and objectives established by the Dominican National Police (DNP). Implementing this standard approach is a significant step in achieving a quality control model, enabling DNP forensic specialists to manage laboratories competently, generate valid results, and promote confidence. In the Dominican Republic, ICITAP works with the support of and in coordination with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
