Armenia: ICITAP Supports Women in Policing in Partnership with U.S. Embassy

On November 8, the U.S. Ambassador to Armenia officially opened the ICITAP Women in Policing course in Yerevan.  The U.S. Ambassador was accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Justice and the Head of the Republic of Armenia Police Headquarters.  These officials addressed the 37 female police officers of the Armenian National Police, emphasizing the importance of gender diversity as a vital component of police reform in Armenia.  They also welcomed three ICITAP senior police advisors (hailing from municipal police departments from the U.S.) and thanked these three female police leaders for their commitment to conduct this training during the COVID pandemic.  The U.S. Ambassador highlighted the ICITAP advisors’ extensive experience in law enforcement and their success in advocating for diversity. The course will address the challenges facing women as they enter traditionally male-dominated workplaces, collective methods for overcoming resistance, and personal strategies for maintaining physical and mental well-being in a highly stressful situation. In Armenia, ICITAP works with the support of (and in coordination with) the State Department’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL).
