New Zealand: ICITAP Leads Panel Discussion at 60th Annual Training Conference for International Association of Women Police in Auckland

From September 17 to September 21, 2023, ICITAP sponsored 54 participants from 20 countries to attend the 2023 Annual International Association of Women Police (IAWP) and the Australasian Council of Women in Policing (ACWAP) Conference in Auckland, New Zealand. The delegates were accompanied by representatives from ICITAP Headquarters. This year’s conference boasted over 800 attendees from 70 countries and provided inspirational keynote speakers, 45 training and panel sessions as well as numerous professional networking events. The conference theme was “Refresh, Renew, Refocus,” and showcased new methods of ensuring safety and security for all the participants’ communities. During the conference, the ICITAP Engaging Multinational Policewomen on Equality and Rights (EMPoWER) team led a workshop titled, “Changing Perceptions, Engaging Communities, Leading Change: Narratives of Women in Counterterrorism.” The workshop included panelists from Albania, Ukraine, Jordan and Indonesia, all of whom spoke to the process of leading change within their respective organizations. The workshop also included an overview about the EMPoWER program, delivered by ICITAP’s Assistant Director for Global Programs and Women, Peace, and Security Unit and was moderated by ICITAP-EMPoWER’s Senior Law Enforcement Advisor. All the panelists who presented have been identified by EMPoWER as “Change Agents” and their participation in the workshop provided a career development opportunity for them as they presented to an international audience.
