Deputy Assistant Attorney General

John W. Elias

John W. Elias serves as the Deputy Assistant Attorney General overseeing the Antitrust Division’s appellate, policy, and international efforts. 

Prior to his appointment as DAAG, John served in the White House Counsel’s Office as Special Assistant to the President and Senior Associate Counsel.  He first joined the Antitrust Division in 2006 through the Attorney General’s Honors Program.  He was a Trial Attorney in the Transportation, Energy, and Agriculture Section and in a Washington-based criminal section.  He previously served in the Office of the Assistant Attorney General as Acting Chief of Staff and Deputy Chief of Staff.  He also served as Counsel, Chief of Staff, and Deputy Associate Attorney General in the Office of the Associate Attorney General.  

John was President of DOJ Pride, the Justice Department’s LGBTQI+ employee affinity group, from 2013 through 2017.  He is a graduate of Stanford Law School and Yale University.
