The Antitrust Division Announces Appointment of New Deputy Assistant Attorney General and New Counsel to the Assistant Attorney General

September 17, 2018

The Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division announced today the appointment of two attorneys into its Front Office.  Michael Murray joins the Division as Deputy Assistant Attorney General after previously serving as Associate Deputy Attorney General, and Lauren Willard joins the Division as Counsel to the Assistant Attorney General from private practice.  Both attorneys come with sterling academic credentials and professional experience, and both served as law clerks to Justice Anthony M. Kennedy of the United States Supreme Court.

“We are proud that Mike and Lauren will be joining the Antitrust Division’s Front Office to bolster its impressive ranks with their elite antitrust and appellate experience,” said Assistant Attorney General Makan Delrahim of the Antitrust Division.  “Their talent and experience will greatly assist the Division as it expands its appellate amicus program and other enforcement efforts that benefit American consumers.”

Mike Murray joins the Antitrust Division from the Office of the Deputy Attorney General, where he served as Counsel and Associate Deputy Attorney General.  In that office he had oversight responsibility for the Civil and Antitrust Divisions and criminal law policy initiatives.  Before joining the Department of Justice in early 2017, Mike was in private practice, where he was an appellate and trial-court litigator in a variety of commercial litigation and antitrust disputes.  Mike clerked on the Ninth Circuit for Judge Diarmuid F. O’Scannlain and on the U.S. Supreme Court for Justice Anthony M. Kennedy.  Mike graduated from Princeton University and Yale Law School.

Lauren Willard joins the Antitrust Division from private practice, where she practiced antitrust and appellate law.  Lauren clerked on the Ninth Circuit for Judge Alex Kozinski and on the U.S. Supreme Court for Justice Anthony M. Kennedy.  Lauren earned her undergraduate degree from Stanford University, her Masters in International Relations from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, and her Juris Doctor from University of Virginia School of Law.
