A green line shows that Spirit's fare did not significantly deviate from around $50 between November 1995 and October 1996. A red line shows that Northwest's fare fluctuated between $150 and $200 from January 1995 to June 1996, then dropped to just above Spirit's $50 fare from June 1996 to October 1996, then increased to between $150 and $300 from October 1996 to December 1997. The period between June and October 1996 when both fare amounts were very close is identified as the predation period.

Note: Northwest defines three types of local passengers: "true local," "connecting local," and "multi-destination local." "True local" passengers are nonstop local passengers.
