On July 24, ICITAP-Montenegro’s Attaché provided an update on ICITAP’s partnership with the Montenegrin Border Police (MBP). During 2019, ICITAP-Montenegro coordinated two training sessions for members of the MBP on the identification of stolen boats and marine components, such as engines. The training events relied on the outstanding contributions of partner law enforcement agencies from the U.S., who also mentored and advised members of the MBP as they applied the training in a series of stepped-up operations at border posts along Montenegro’s coastline. The training provided the MBP with the ability to use databases and investigative checks to locate stolen boats, as well as boats with altered identification numbers. The European Border Agency FRONTEX has been conducting liaison visits in Montenegro, and is interested in replicating the Montenegrin operation at a number of locations in the EU.
