Mr. Kenneth Zwick
U.S. Department of Justice
Wash., DC 20530
Dear Mr. Zwick:
Re the September 11th attacks, please grant all families are equal access to compensation.
Many lesbian and gay were killed in the September 11th attacks. Since the attacks, lesbian and gay
surviving partners of those killed who have had mixed results in obtaining equal treatment at the local
level in the distribution of relief funds by private and state agencies. In October the US Congress
passed legislation instructing the Justice Department to create a federal fund to ensure that all victims
and immediate family members were fairly compensated and to provide an alternative to filing lawsuits
to obtain compensation.
Soon the Justice Department will unveil rules related to how the program will be administered, and who
will
be eligible to file relief claims under the September 11 Victims Relief Fund. Amnesty International and I
believe that justice will only be served if all families are treated equally and that means that lesbian and
gay
partners must be given equal access to compensation under this fund.
Thank You.
Sincerely,
Individual Comment
