Sept 11th Victim Concerns
Mr. President and Members of Congress,
My brother-in-law was killed on Sept. 11th in WTC Tower 2. We have been
very disappointed with the regulations issued by Special Master
Feinberg. They provide unfair compensation for economic and non
economic loss and victimize the families for a second time.
I learned today that you Mr. President, the Office of Management and
Budget and the Dept. of Justice have forced Mr. Feinberg to LIMIT the
awards through the program.
This is an excerpt from a NY Newsday article, "The limits - $250,000 for
each victim plus $50,000 for each dependent - suggest to some that
political ideology is playing a role in the compensation formula. A
limit of $250,000 for pain and suffering awards is a cornerstone of GOP
tort reform legislation."
"Special Master Kenneth Feinberg told families in private meetings this
week that he does not have the power to lift a $250,000 cap on non
economic damages, according to participants in those meetings. He has
told them they must apply political pressure to the White House Office
of Management and Budget, participants said."
I find this appalling!! Don't turn this fund into a budget exercise!!!
The $250,000 for non economic loss is less than 1/10th the amount paid
to families of other cases (ie. Lockerbee and Flight 800).
You will be providing many billions of dollars to This was not the
intent of Congress when they passed the Airline bailout and created the
fund.
You MUST force Mr. Feinberg to amend the regulations and fairly
compensate the victims of this tragedy.
I would appreciate a response to this request.
Thank you and may God bless America.
