Victim Compensation Fund
To Whom It May Concern:
I am aware that you are soliciting comments regarding the Victim Compensation
Fund for the World Trade Center Disaster Relief Fund. I am writing to
request that homosexual and lesbian individuals who lost their life partners
be included among the relatives eligible for compensation, as well as their
de facto children of the relationship.
It is my opinion that the relief fund should be administered without regard
to sexual orientation or marital status, and there is no reason for the
federal government not to follow the example already set by New York
Governor Pataki in granting compensation benefits "on a showing of mutual
interdependence with the victim, in recognition that anyone who shared with
the victim living expenses, day-to-day activities and the emotional bonds of
family deserves help in this time of need."
Thank you for considering my opinion.
Sincerely,
Individual Comment
