This is regarding the development of the rules that will govern the
administration of the "September 11 Victim Compensation Fund"
established by Congress in the Air Transportation Safety and System
Stabilization Act. I urge you to adopt rules that are inclusive of
gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered people and their families
who suffered from the attacks.
Let us overcome our national prejudices during this time and give aid
to ALL people whose spouses, parents, or children were lost or
injured in the attacks, including life partners and de facto parents
or children. These people and families are suffering regardless of
sexual orientation or marital status, and your fund should benefit
them regardless.
I support the letter sent to your office by Lambda Legal Defense and
Education Fund, National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, Human Rights
Campaign, Empire State Agenda, National Center for Lesbian Rights,
and Gay and Lesbian Advocates and Defenders.
