ST. ALBANS MAN SENTENCED TO PRISON ON ILLEGAL FIREARMS POSSESSION CHARGE

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Ronald Truman, 47, of St. Albans, West Virginia, was sentenced today to one year and one day in prison by United States District Judge Thomas E. Johnston for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.  Truman pleaded guilty in May.    The defendant admitted that he knowingly possessed three firearms and ammunition at his St. Albans residence in November 2010.  Among the three firearms the defendant admitted to possessing was a Sig Sauer .45 pistol.  Truman further admitted that he had stolen the .45 pistol from a residence in 2008 where he was working as part of a construction crew.

At the time Truman possessed the firearms, he had been convicted of third offense DUI (felony) in the Circuit Court of Kanawha County on August 28, 2001 and his right to possess a firearm had not been restored.

The investigation was conducted by St. Albans Police Department.  Assistant United States Attorney Joshua Hanks handled the prosecution.
