KANAWHA COUNTY MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO FEDERAL CRACK COCAINE DISTRIBUTION CHARGE

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Carlito Carter, 32, of Dunbar, West Virginia, pleaded guilty today before United States District Judge John T. Copenhaver, Jr. to distribution of 28 grams or more of crack cocaine.  Carter admitted that on April 28, 2011, he sold 115 grams of crack cocaine to two confidential informants working with the Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Network Team (MDENT) in exchange for $4,400.  Carter further admitted that on May 20, 2011, he sold approximately 114.8 grams of crack cocaine to confidential informants working with MDENT in exchange for $4,400.  Law enforcement officers arranged a controlled buy with the defendant on June 6, 2011, in which Carter provided a confidential informant with five ounces of crack cocaine in exchange for $5400.  Following the controlled buy, officers arrested the defendant and recovered the recorded buy money from the floor board of the vehicle that he was driving at the time.

Carter faces up to 40 years in prison and a $5 million fine when he is sentenced on December 6, 2011.

The investigation was conducted by the Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Network Team (MDENT).  Assistant United States Attorney Monica Dillon is in charge of the prosecution.
