CHARLESTON MAN SENTENCED TO 6 YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON FOR CRACK COCAINE DISTRIBUTION
CHARLESTON, W.Va. – U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin announced that a Charleston man was sentenced to six years in federal prison for distributing crack cocaine. Jamal Wheeler, also known as “G” 42, previously pleaded guilty in June to possession with intent to distribute 28 grams or more of crack cocaine. On March 11, 2012, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at the defendant’s Charleston residence. During the search of the residence, officers found crack cocaine and cocaine in the kitchen. Wheeler admitted possession of the crack cocaine, cocaine and U.S. currency located inside the residence. The defendant also informed law enforcement that the $23,958 found inside the residence was from illegal drug sales.
The crack cocaine recovered from the residence was submitted to the DEA laboratory and weighed 131 grams and the cocaine tested positive weighing 325.8 grams.
The Drug Enforcement Administration, the Huntington Police Department and the Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Network Team (MDENT) conducted the investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Monica Coleman handled the prosecution. The sentence was imposed by United States District Judge John T. Copenhaver, Jr.
