KENTUCKY MAN SENTENCED TO 188 MONTHS IN PRISON FOR ILLEGAL FIREARM POSSESSION
CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Marvin Ford, 38, of Rush, Kentucky, was sentenced today to 188 months in prison for illegal possession of a firearm. The defendant was previously convicted in December by a jury sitting in Charleston. Evidence at trial proved that during a January 2011 traffic stop of a vehicle being driven by Ford, law enforcement officers found the defendant in possession of a loaded .380 caliber semi-automatic pistol.
Ford had been convicted of numerous felonies prior to the firearm possession conviction, including the 1994 attempted murder of a West Virginia State Police trooper.
Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department conducted the investigation. Assistant United States Attorneys Hunter Smith and William King handled the prosecution. United States District Judge John T. Copenhaver, Jr. presided over the sentencing.
