OHIO MAN SENTENCED TO 73 MONTHS IN PRISON FOR CRACK COCAINE AND OXYCODONE DISTRIBUTION
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. –Demetrius R. Calloway, 35, of Cleveland, OH, was sentenced today to 73 months in prison by United States District Judge Robert C. Chambers for conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine and oxycodone. Calloway previously pleaded guilty in August. The defendant admitted that during the 2005 until December 2009, he and other known individuals conspired to sell crack cocaine and oxycodone to various individuals in and around Huntington. Calloway further admitted to traveling with an associate to Detroit to obtain both crack cocaine and cocaine and subsequently brought it back to Huntington to distribute. Calloway also admitted that he was responsible for selling a total of approximately 612 grams of crack cocaine and 780 80-milligram oxycodone pills over the course of the conspiracy.
This case was prosecuted as part of an ongoing effort led by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia to combat the illicit sale and misuse of prescription drugs. The U.S. Attorney’s Office, joined by various federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, remain committed to aggressively pursuing and shutting down illegal pill trafficking, eliminating open air drug markets and curtailing the spread of opiate painkillers in communities across the Southern District.
The Huntington Violent Crimes and Drug Task Force conducted the investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Gregory McVey handled the prosecution.
