SHADY SPRING MAN SENTENCED TO FIVE YEARS IN PRISON FOR OXYCODONE DISTRIBUTION

BECKLEY, W.Va. – Larry Wayne Meadows, 60, of Shady Spring, Raleigh County, W.Va., was sentenced today to five years in prison for distributing oxycodone.  Meadows previously pleaded guilty in February.  Meadows admitted that on March 15, 2011, he sold two 30-milligram oxycodone pills to an individual working with the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Department.

The Raleigh County Sheriff’s Department conducted the investigation.  Assistant United States Attorney John File handled the prosecution.  United States District Judge Irene C. Berger presided over the sentencing.

This case was prosecuted as part of an ongoing effort led by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia to combat the illicit sale and misuse of prescription drugs.  The U.S. Attorney’s Office, joined by various federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, remain committed to aggressively pursuing and shutting down illegal pill trafficking, eliminating open air drug markets and curtailing the spread of opiate painkillers in communities across the Southern District.
