BECKLEY MAN SENTENCED TO FIVE YEARS IN PRISON FOR ILLEGAL FIREARM POSSESSION
BECKLEY, W.Va. – Larry Wayne Gluyas, 45, of Beckley, was sentenced today to five years in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Gluyas previously pleaded guilty in February. On September, 2, 2011, following a domestic incident, the defendant admitted to law enforcement officers that he had a firearm. Beckley Police Department officers subsequently found a Winchester 20-gauge shotgun inside of the defendant’s residence.
The defendant was prohibited from possessing a firearm because of his 2007 felony conviction in Polk County, Fla., for possession of cocaine.
The investigation was conducted by the Beckley Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Assistant United States Attorney John File handled the prosecution. United States District Judge Irene C. Berger presided over the sentencing.
