CHARLESTON, W.Va. – David Paul Robinson Jr., 23, of Charleston pleaded guilty today in federal court before United States District Judge John T. Copenhaver Jr., to aiding and abetting the possession with intent to distribute a quantity of cocaine base. The defendant admitted that he and an associate traveled to Columbus, Ohio on May 2, 2011, to purchase cocaine base for distribution in the Charleston area. The following day, officers with the Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Network Team conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle driven by the defendant near Sissonville, West Virginia. During the traffic stop, officers utilized a K-9 unit to conduct an exterior search of the vehicle. The K-9 gave a positive indication on the vehicle and officers conducted a subsequent search where they found approximately 469 grams of cocaine base in the console of the vehicle.
Robinson faces up to 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine when he is sentenced on September 1, 2011.
This case was investigated by the Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Network Team. Assistant United States Attorney Monica Dillon is in charge of the prosecution.
