OHIO MAN SENTENCED TO PRISON ON FEDERAL DRUG CHARGES

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Christopher Springfield, 29, of Cleveland, Ohio, was sentenced today to 92 months in prison by United States District Judge Thomas E. Johnston for possession with intent to distribute 35 grams of crack cocaine.

On July 30, 2010, a police officer with the Boone County Sheriff’s Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was being driven by the defendant.  During a consensual search of Springfield’s vehicle, police found a black duffle bag which contained suspected crack cocaine, digital scales and razor blades.

The suspected crack cocaine was submitted to the Drug Enforcement Administration Mid-Atlantic Laboratory and proved to be 36.5 grams of crack cocaine.  Springfield admitted that he possessed the crack cocaine on July 30, 2010 and intended to distribute it.

The investigation was conducted by the Boone County Sheriff’s Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration.  Assistant United States Attorney John Frail handled the prosecution.
