CROSS LANES WOMAN SENTENCED TO PRISON ON FEDERAL GUN THEFT CHARGE
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Casey Elizabeth Morris, 31, of Cross Lanes, West Virginia, was sentenced yesterday to 21 months prison by United States District Judge Robert C. Chambers for theft of firearms. Morris pleaded guilty to the charge in February. Morris admitted that at various times between October 2009 and March 17, 2010, she stole and pawned approximately nine firearms. On October 27, 2006, the defendant was convicted of felony embezzlement in Kanawha County Circuit Court.
A joint investigation was conducted by members of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department. Assistant United States Attorney Gregory McVey handled the prosecution.
This case is being brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods. Project Safe Neighborhoods is a nationwide commitment to reduce gun crime in the United States by networking existing local programs targeting gun crime.
