KANAWHA COUNTY WOMAN SENTENCED TO PRISON ON FEDERAL OXYCODONE CHARGE

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Brittany Diann King, 22, of East Bank, Kanawha County, West Virginia, was sentenced today to 24 months in prison by United States District Judge John T. Copenhaver, Jr. for possession with intent to distribute oxycodone.  King admitted that on two different occasions in February 2010, she sold an oxycodone 80-milligram tablet to an informant working for the Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Network Team (MDENT).  Both of the transactions took place at the defendant’s East Bank residence.  King further admitted that on March 23, 2010, she sold two 80-milligram oxycodone tablets to an informant.  The drug transaction occurred at the Red Roof Inn located in Charleston.  Also on March 23, 2010, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at the defendant’s room located at the Red Roof Inn where they seized approximately 58 80-milligram oxycodone tablets and approximately $1,147 cash.  Among the seized currency were four $20 bills used to make the controlled drug purchase from the defendant earlier the same day.   

This case was prosecuted as part of an ongoing effort led by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia to combat the illicit sale and misuse of prescription drugs.  The U.S. Attorney’s Office, joined by various federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, remain committed to aggressively pursuing and shutting down illegal pill trafficking, eliminating open air drug markets and curtailing the spread of opiate painkillers in communities across the Southern District. 

This case was investigated by the Metro Drug Enforcement Network Team (MDENT).  Assistant United States Attorney Joshua Hanks handled the prosecution.
