DETROIT MAN CONVICTED ON OXYCODONE POSSESSION CHARGE
CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Randall Justin McGee, 24, of Detroit, was found guilty today during a bench trial before United States District Judge Thomas E. Johnston of possession with intent to distribute quantities of oxycodone and oxymorphone. Trial evidence revealed that on July 26, 2011, law enforcement officers with the Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Network Team (MDENT) conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was occupied by the defendant. A subsequent search conducted by officers of the defendant’s person during the July 2011 traffic stop revealed a bag which contained 151 oxymorphone pills and 246 oxycodone pills.
McGee faces up to 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine when he is sentenced on April 30, 2012.
This case was prosecuted as part of an ongoing effort led by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia to combat the illicit sale and misuse of prescription drugs. The U.S. Attorney’s Office, joined by various federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, remain committed to aggressively pursuing and shutting down illegal pill trafficking, eliminating open air drug markets and curtailing the spread of opiate painkillers in communities across the Southern District.
The Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Network Team (MDENT) conducted the investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Monica Dillon is in charge of the prosecution.
