DETROIT MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO HEROIN DISTRIBUTION
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Demetrius Deshawn Garrett, 25, of Detroit, pleaded guilty today in federal court before United States District Judge Robert C. Chambers to distribution of heroin. Garrett admitted that on September 22, 2011, he met a confidential informant at a prearranged location in Huntington to complete a drug transaction. The defendant admitted that he sold two grams of heroin to the informant in exchange for $430.
On October 20, 2011, members of the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) conducted a search of a Huntington residence and subsequently recovered 147 40-milligram oxymorphone pills, 84 30-milligram oxymorphone pills, and 18 20-milligram oxymorphone pills. Garrett admitted in a Mirandized statement that he was a runner for an associate who controlled the Huntington residence. The defendant also admitted that he and other individuals sold heroin and oxymorphone pills that had been stored at the residence.
Garrett faces up to 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine when he is sentenced on April 23, 2012.
The Huntington Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) conducted the investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Gregory McVey is in charge of the prosecution.
