BECKLEY FEDERAL INMATE PLEADS GUILTY TO ILLEGAL WEAPON POSSESSION CHARGE

BECKLEY, W.Va. –Delonta Daniel, 24, of Washington, D.C., pleaded guilty today in federal court before United States District Judge Irene C. Berger to possession of weapon by a federal inmate.  On October 3, 2011, a staff member at the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Beckley conducted a search of the defendant and found him to be in possession of a five-inch homemade knife, commonly referred to as a “shank.” Daniel was incarcerated at the prison at the time of the offense, where he was serving time on a conviction of assault with intent to commit robbery in the District of Columbia.

Daniel faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine when he is sentenced on May 9, 2012.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons and the Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation.  Assistant United States Attorney John File is in charge of the prosecution.
