CHARLESTON MAN SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR COCAINE DISTRIBUTION

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Pedro Perez Avendano, 36, of Charleston, was sentenced today to 30 months in prison by United States District Judge John T. Copenhaver, Jr. for distribution of cocaine.  Avendano pleaded guilty in September 2011.  The defendant admitted that on April 16, 2010, he agreed to meet a confidential informant working with law enforcement at a location in Cross Lanes, West Virginia in order to complete a drug transaction.  Avendano further admitted that he subsequently gave the informant what was represented to be four ounces of cocaine in exchange for $5600.  The cocaine purchased from the defendant was submitted to the Drug Enforcement Administration lab for testing and did in fact test positive for cocaine weighing 107.2 grams.  The defendant admitted that he is responsible for distributing between 400 grams but less than 500 grams of cocaine.            

This case was investigated by the Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Network Team (MDENT) and the Drug Enforcement Administration.  Assistant United States Attorney Monica Dillon handled the prosecution.
